A MUCH-LOVED classic car show is returning to Southend seafront this weekend.

A host of vintage vehicles will be parked up at Southend’s City Beach on Sunday, and then every third Sunday of the month through until October.

It follows the announcement that Southend Shakedown would return to the seafront on Easter Monday after a three-year absence.

Organised by the Southend Classic Car Club, residents are free to show off their own loved cars, the only qualifying criteria being the car must be at least 25 years old.

Organiser Bill Shorer said: “This is one for the calendar for car fans.

“If you have love for cool cars from the past, then make sure to head on down as the classic cars shows on City Beach are back this year, with seven shows starting this coming Easter Sunday.”

The shows, starting at 9am and open to 4pm, are free of charge. If you have a classic, car, van or truck, then you are welcome to join the display.

Shoebury resident Mr Shorer added: “We have had some great cars on display over the years, and this year we are hoping the shows are even better than ever before, “We look forward to seeing you there and feel free to bring family and friends along too.”

The seafront shows, which have been running for almost a decade, will see about 50 cars on display, with previous models to grace the shows including a 1967 Volkswagen Beetle, a Ford Zodiac from 1961, a 1967 Chevrolet Camero and even a 1975 Rolls Royce Shadow.

The displays are organised by the South Eastern Vintage and Classic Vehicle Club, a 250-strong club of class car enthusiasts, established in 1990.

The club arranges various displays at classic car shows across the region and is best known for its London to Southend Classic Vehicle Run, an annual event which commemorates 64 cars that left London on a 1,000-mile trial in April 1900.

The trip took drivers and their passengers on an endurance test to Edinburgh and back to prove that the car was a serious mode of transport to rival trains.

There are limited spaces available for display cars, so to make sure your own beloved vehicle makes the line-up, you can book ahead at www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/southend-classic-cars-7957862815.
