Mercedes and Will.I.Am present The Flip Concept. The model will show up in Miami, Florida, right before the Formula 1 Grand Prix in the company of the seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton.
Mercedes and Will.I.Am, by his real name Williams Adams, started in the fall of last year. And it has now reached a whole new level with The Flop. The premium carmaker describes it as an “automotive masterpiece.” It is a one-off concept that previews future technologies.
Will.I.Am got the West Coast Customs involved in the project. The purpose was to give more students from disadvantaged communities access to STEAM. That is short for “science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
You probably can’t tell by the design, but the car is based on the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. But the front end has naturally found inspiration in the iconic G-Class. The 300 SLS Gullwing has also been a muse for The Flip.
“I grew up in a ghetto,” 47-year old Will.I.Am tells. “I watched legendary hip hop artist rap about Mercedes. So it was my dream to own a Mercedes. For a lot of inner-city kids, owning a Mercedes is a symbol of progress and advancing out of struggle,” he explains.
Will.I.Am has reached his goal and went beyond that. Not only does he own a Mercedes-AMG, but he is also in his sixth project with the brand of his dreams.
The concept sports the bear-like face icon, “Bear Witness.” It is, as Mercedes claims, the focal point of the Bear Witness collection, featuring limited-edition apparel and accessories. They’re all available at the Mercedes-AMG Experience Center in Miami, but also online, starting today.
More on the concept and on the new collaboration will be revealed in the “Drive” documentary that will premiere in Cannes, during the 2022 film festival.
